The sun represents light, warmth, and growth making sun deities very important to early cultures, and it is no coincidence that the sun came to be the supreme ruler. In Egyptian myths, the sun was seen as Ra.
Ra travels in The Boat of the Millions protecting its fires from the waters of the underworld during the night. Ra travels in the Sun Ship with various other deities including Set, Mehen and Ma'at who guided the boat's course. Sunrise is the rebirth of the Ra by the goddess Nut and the sky, thus attributing the earliest written concept of rebirth and renewal to Ra the Creator and protector of the Light.
There are many stories of Ra, however the images typically reveal him in profile. When I took the task to create the Ra Amulet, I chose to develop a full face of the God looking straight at you. This is both to intensify the aspect of the Noble Deity and to herald the new aeon: what was once considered sacred and set aside is now in our midst are again recognized for what they truly are.
